Container Grades Explained

– One Trip: Containers with minimal use, often looking brand new.
– Cargo Worthy (CWO): Containers certified for international shipping, ensuring structural soundness.
– Wind & Watertight (WWT): Containers guaranteed to keep contents dry and secure.
– IICL (Institute of International Container Lessors): Containers repaired to rigorous standards, often with patched/welded dents.

Shipping Container Conditions & Grades

Used shipping containers come in a wide variety of conditions. The most common are One TripCargo Worthy (CWO), and Wind & Water Tight (WWT). There are also “As Is” Containers, which we do not sell because they are usually damaged, and thus cannot be guaranteed. As well as containers repaired to IICL (Institute of International Container Lessors) standards.

While we don’t offer IICL containers as an option, we do sometimes sell IICL condition containers. Our experience has been that containers repaired to IICL standards are in excellent structural condition, but don’t look cosmetically different than CWO or WWT containers (and, due to dents often being patched/welded instead of simply pounded out, IICL containers can sometimes look less visually appealing than their wind and water tight or cargo worthy counterparts.

Please Note: All used containers will have rust/dents. No matter the grade, every container we sell is guaranteed to be structurally sound, and comes with our one year warranty.

We make shipping container delivery hassle-free! Our containers arrive on roll-off trailers, eliminating the need for costly forklifts or cranes. However, we do require sufficient space for safe and efficient delivery. Please review the necessary clearance requirements below to ensure a smooth delivery process.

The Trucks are Big

To ensure safe delivery, please note that our trucks require ample space. For 40ft containers, we need 100′ (30m) of space, including 18m for the truck and trailer. For 20ft containers, we require 60′ (18m) of space, with 12m for the truck and trailer. The truck is 10′ (2.4m) wide, needing an additional 1′ (.3m) on each side for safe maneuvering, and stands 13’6″ (4.1m) tall when loaded, reaching up to 16′ (4.9m) when tipped.

The Trucks are Heavy

Our deliveries are handled by professional heavy-duty hauling companies with roll-off trailers, weighing over 45,000 lbs. (20,000 kg). We cannot drive on soft ground, so please ensure your delivery site has firm, obstacle-free ground. While dirt surfaces are acceptable, they must be firm. If rain affects your delivery site, please contact us at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled delivery date to reschedule and avoid dry run fees.

Containers are Next Off Stack

We source containers directly from intermodal cargo circulation, ensuring they are wind/watertight, with sealing doors and hole-free floors. While color and cosmetic condition cannot be guaranteed, every container is structurally sound and backed by our 1-year warranty. Please view sample photos to understand the condition of our used containers, which may have surface rust and minor damage.

Shipping Container Dimensions & Specifications

Shipping containers are held to very specific dimensional standards to ensure they can be safely stacked on top of, and below, any other shipping container in the world. Standard shipping containers are 8′ wide (2.44m), and are measured in TEU’s (twenty-foot equivalent units). Ocean cargo containers are held to a rigid standard to ensure that there are no issues during shipping.  Each intermodal shipping container (sometimes called “conex” containers) must be able to not only stack perfectly on a cargo ship, but also lock into chassis trailers safely and securely stack on rail cars.  The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) sets the standards for shipping container dimensions (via ISO 668).

More Information About Shipping Containers

The information listed on intermodal shipping container doors is standardized so that the container can be handled at any port in the world. From the manufacturer information on the CSC plate, to the size & capacity information, to the container identification number, everything is standardized on a shipping container. Furthermore, to ensure the same equipment can safely handle the containers anywhere in the world, shipping containers are held to a very specific set of specifications and dimensions.
